What are the differences between down and silk duvets?

Down duvets are filled with the soft, fluffy undercoating of duck or geese, providing exceptional cloud-like insulation (“loft”) that keeps sleepers supremely warm and cozy without adding weight. (Did you know? All of our down duvets are certified for quality assurance). These types of duvets require a bit more care when it comes to laundering and maintaining their loft, and while down fill can be hypoallergenic if properly cleaned, some people may find they have sensitivities. Learn more about our down duvets here.

Silk duvets are, as you'd expect, filled with layers of naturally-derived silk fibers, known greatly for their luxuriously soft and hypoallergenic properties. While our silk duvets come in a variety of weights, they're great for warm sleepers and hot seasons as the fine, hollow silk fibers are highly breathable, absorbent, and cooling. Silk duvets are also considered easy-care as they can be “sun-cured” once or twice a year for maintenance, and naturally repel dust mites and bacteria. Learn more about our silk duvets here

Both QE Home’s down and silk duvets feature outer loops that attach to the coordinating inner ties of our designer duvet covers, anchoring your duvet in place and prevent shifting throughout the night.

What are down alternative duvets?

Down alternative duvets are duvets made from any material besides down or silk. These include synthetic materials such as microgel, or natural alternatives like wool or silk. These types of duvets are a great option for those looking for more economical price points or anyone with sensitivities to down fill. Learn more about down alternative duvets here

Can you wash a duvet in a washing machine?

While silk duvets are not recommended for machine washing, many of our other duvets can be washed using a washing machine, however we recommend following the specific care instructions to make sure it's appropriate for your specific layer. For more information on how to properly take care of your, check out our Laundering & Fabric Care guide
