Merry Kitschmas
2025 Nov 21st
Deck the halls with kitsch, glam, and everything fabulous this holiday season! Our favourite décor trend this year — Kitschmas — is an over-the-top maximalist’s dream, where everything big and bright is having a moment. Think oversized bows, sparkly ornaments, and decorations in every colour of the rainbow (not just red and green!) — all over the house.
Discover how to transform your space into a kitschy winter wonderland, room by room:

The Bedroom
Home to cozy nights and merry mornings, the bedroom is an oft-overlooked space for adding some merry cheer. Start with some glittery garlands on the walls, oversized snowflakes on the windows, and finish off with rainbow string lights on the bedframe.
On the bed, try holiday-themed sheets, paired with a holiday duvet cover or quilt set. Mix and match motifs for extra kitschy fun, or choose a solid santa-coloured sheet set instead. Throw on some cozy holiday throws and a set of holiday pillowcases for extra kitschy touches.

The Living Room
The home base for holiday cheer, there’s lots of kitschy fun to be had in the living room. Go for broke with mismatched vintage ornaments, tinsel everywhere, giant candy-canes, and an ugly Christmas sweater display. Add a wreath on the door, stockings over the fireplace, an advent calendar, and holiday-scented candles for classic touches that complete the look.
On the couch, add as many kitschy holiday cushions and throws as you can fit, transforming your space into a cozy holiday burrow. For some extra flashy fun, light the way with glow-in-the-dark holiday throws, perfect for guiding Santa through the living room at night.

The Dining Room
Don’t worry, the food itself doesn’t need to be kitschy! You can still dig into some traditional turkey dinner while surrounded with Kitschmas décor. Try table centrepieces with extravagant décor items like classic pinecones and berries, but dip them in glitter beforehand! Or go crazy and switch them out for lava lamps and plastic santas.
Other opportunities for dining room kitsch include (but are not limited to!) very merry napkins and place settings, plates (try your local thrift store for some vintage kitchen kitsch!), and holly jolly garlands spanning the centre of the table.
The best kitschy decorating advice is this: have fun, and do what makes your inner interior decorator shine. And: A big box of tinsel and glitter galore go a long way.
